Good is the enemy of great.

The above title is the first line in an amazing book I read about a month ago. Good to Great, is the culmination of years of researching a simple question. What makes companies that are good turn into companies that are great?

I'll spare you the lecture on why this is an amazing book and focus on just one of the principles that I've learned. Good is the enemy of great. That's it. If I am satisfied with being a good photographer, I'll never be a great photographer. If I'm satisfied with giving good customer service, what incentive do I have to give great customer service?

I've always tried to improve my business with each wedding I shoot, but this book made me think of all the little things that I could do even better. I won't list them right now but I will be working on them one by one.

2008 is going to be an amazing year. I have clear vision of where I'm going to be taking my business and what I'm going to accomplish this year. I've also got one big surprise that I think is going provide brides with a final product that will be absolutley breathtaking.

For right now I'm keeping things under wraps but as we get farther along in the year I'll share more about what is coming up. It's going to be great!

Wanna buy a house?

This business is growing. The family is growing. Must have own office with a lock on the door. Must have playroom where I can throw all toys.

That's right we are moving to bigger and better things. But first we've got to sell our house. I've put a lot of work into it, new paint, cabinets, bamboo floors etc. etc.

One tough bride

It's amazing what brides will do for a good shot! A lot of brides stand in the freezing cold to get their pictures taken, but this weekend Lauren sliced her finger open while she was sledding down the hill with John in our first shot of the day. She didn't care though, just slapped some snow on it and called it good.

John, Lauren and I headed over to Suttle Lake for their engagement shoot. They were so smiley and interacted so well it was easy to take great pictures of them. It was fun to get outside of Corvallis and do a different type of shoot too.

Big Thank You

I want to start 2008 by saying "Thanks." Thinking back about 2007 it has been an amazing year. My business has really exploded and I am so grateful to all the brides and grooms that chose my as their photographer. Being a part of your weddings was so much fun. Thanks for making my job easy!

Happy New Year!

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while...been pretty busy with the holidays and all.

New Year's resolution number #1 - blog more.

This lovely little slideshow is Leah and Billy's engagement session. They're getting married in San Jose next year, which will be my first California wedding! I'm pretty excited because Leah is a good friend from high school so it should be a lot of fun.
