Road Trippin'

Well actually we started off our little family trip with a quick plane
trip, but we will be doing plenty of driving too. Sofia was so cute on
the plane. She started talking to a little boy in front of her saying
things like, "Do you want to hold my hand?"

Because I wasn't busy enough....

I'm a pretty busy guy. I have two jobs. I teach photography full time at Corvallis High School. I also run my own wedding photography business shooting 15-20 weddings a year. I have two children under the age of three. If that wasn't enough, this year I'll be starting my Master's program at OSU in Photography. Luckily though, I won't be teaching full time so I'll have a little more time to devote to my family, my business and my school. This all brings me to the announcement that I'm taking on a third job. I am now the official Corallis Correspondent for Mi Gente magazine. Shooting Barack Obama for the cover was just so much fun, and they were pleased enough with the pictures that I'll be shooting more freelance for them in the future. I'm pretty enthused to be able to work in so many different forms of photography. This year I'll have the opportunity to be a teacher, a student, a small business owner, and now a photojournalist.

Who needs the sun?

Well I spoke too soon. Apparently the sun decided to go away for Calvin and Lisa's engagement session on the coast. That's ok though! The situation forced us to be a little more creative and I really love the romantic feel we got from the dramatic lighting we used. Sometimes, the light came from my flashes, sometimes a dimly lit hallway or even Christmas lights wrapped around a tree. Of course it helped that Calvin and Lisa were totally into the shoot and laughed and talked and smiled and kissed, and then kissed a little more the whole time.....

I wanna make you laugh

Shooting Amanda and Sean's engagement yesterday was soooooo much fun. They were totally relaxed in front of the camera and just casually chatted as we walked around taking pictures. Their topics ranged from Barack Obama to lighthouses to poop and Barry White. They kept making me laugh behind the camera!

p.s. Since Amanda and Sean are Barry White fans, I thought their engagement session slideshow needed a little more soul. This is "Something's come over me" by Ernie Halter and is part of the new music on my site.

Dress Trashing

I don't know if this shoot really qualifies as "Trashing the Dress", but we definitely got the dress a little dirty. This dress, modeled by Lydia, was made by Marianne Egan, who teaches fashion design at Oregon State University. If you're interested in having a custom designed dress let me know and I'll put you in contact with Marianne!

O and by the way...Where have all the veils gone? It seems like brides no long have long veils. Is is just me or are they out of style right now? As a photographer I love the veils and the versatility they can add to a shoot.

It has been a while since I posted about the cutest kids in the world. I got a new 24mm 1.4 lens and wanted to try it out on my family, especially my little son Gabriel. These are straight from the camera. Beautiful colors and beautiful kids right?

Hailey and Sean's Magnificent Oregon Wedding

I love being a wedding photographer. On May 31st I had the opportunity to document Hailey and Sean's wedding at because I got a chance to work with some of Oregon's top wedding vendors. Mcmenamin's Edgefield in Troutdale Oregon, outside of Portland. I've shot at other Mcmenamin's locations, but this is my favorite so far. The little vineyard was a great place to shoot at and the different rooms have so much character.

Speaking of character, I have never had a bride who put so much time into the little details as Hailey. EVERYTHING was labeled and customized literally from the top her her head to the bottoms of her shoes. But all that work in the details didn't stop her from hiking into the weeds for a great shot in some tall grass!

One thing I also really loved about this wedding was the vows that Sean and Hailey shared together. They made each other laugh and cry and it was just so sincere. I kept smiling behind the camera!
